The tea dance programme was given a face-lift at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, as seniors were isolated and lacked interactions and activities due to centre closures as safe distancing measures kicked in. Sensing a gap in the provision of services to seniors during this period, Johnson developed Virtual Return To The Tea Dance© in partnership with Singapore’s National Heritage Board to combat the fallout due to the safety measures.
The overwhelming success of Virtual Return To The Tea Dance© saw the extension of the partnership with the National Heritage Board with the development and delivery of yet another hugely popular programme – Grooving Down Memory Lane. One hundred and four sessions were carried out twice weekly, which saw participant numbers soaring past 100,000 seniors over the duration of the one-year programme.
